WEEKLY REVIEW
03.29.2010

The mission of a SWAT team is to prevent the
loss of life in dangerous situations. The tools utilized
range greatly for any given situation, and the officers who
serve in the capacity are typically the most sound it tactics
and firearm capabilities. Having the right vehicle for
this type of job can vary greatly and the costs skyrocket once
you begin to add ballistic capabilities to the truck, van, tank,
or whatever else is going to be rolled down the street toward
gun fire.

With limited resources, many agencies do not
have a litany of vehicles to choose from so they must select the
best vehicle that can be used in the widest number of
situations. Lenco is a manufacturer that can help adapt a
number of vehicles to meet the needs of a police department.
Lenco offers marked, unmarked, and even stealthy
looking vehicles that are difficult to detect if the added
element of suprise is needed.

If you look closely at the back passenger window
of this truck you will see a firing port. Lenco is a
nationwide company that can work to tailor a solution for your
agency, and has the experience to help you decide which type of
vehicle is best suited for your needs.

Ever have the cones you put out at a scene as a police
officer walk away? Or know that you will not have the
opportunity to return to the scene you stopped at, and the cones
never find their way back to your car?
I regretfully have had both happen to me, and found an
interesting product set to launch. We have yet to get a
sample in hand because the company will not officially start to
sell them to until May 1st, 2010.
The thought process behind these disposable cones are that
they are around a dollar to produce, have a super adhesive on
the bottom (will withstand the wind of a leaf blower -
demonstrated on their website), and are just as visible or more
visible as a conventional cone.
We can see these cones being especially helpful to those on
limited space (police motorcycle
units), or just anyone who needs the trunk of their police
cruiser for other things. I can also see a consumer use
for these cones because they are much easier to stow away in the
back of an SUV (can be tucked under the lift panel where the
spare tire is located).
While these disposable cones are not a catch all to every
cone situation, they will give the flare market a run for their
money. More information can be found at

It
seems as though rain is a daily occurrence here in the North East
this week, so it is only appropriate we touch base on some police
gear that will help keep officers dry. The one complaint I
have heard about most rain gear is officers are individuals, and
have individual opinions on what type of rain gear works best for
them.

Watershed addresses that dilemma and allows the police
officer to customize his or her jacket while keeping uniformity
of department standards. They offer a number of colors,
sizes, collars, reflective striping, police logo's, and even
pocket configuration. There are zip outs if you want them
for firearms, and you can add a vent zips under the arm for
those warm weather rain storms.
The best part about the company is their long established
reputation for waterproof clothing. They also offer
matching pants, overalls, and jump suits that meet their strict
waterproof standards. Watershed offers a fleece zip in
liner for warmth, and has a special zipper configuration to
fight out even the most driving rain.
Colors range in almost every police unit imaginable and cover
black, blues, olive drab, and several others allowing officers
to chose what they want right from the website. For more
