WEEKLY REVIEW

In our
Computer and Computer Hardware category is a well known
manufacturer Apple which has hit a niche with its recently
released IPAD. Aside from selling 3 million units in
the first 80 days of release, Apple is slowly dominating
many specialty industries with its innovative products.
We also see many uses for the IPAD in law
enforcement and implore you to think outside the box.
Imagine a department that issues each officer an IPAD loaded
with Citrix (to avoid sensitive data residing locally on the
device). Next face the reality that for less than
$800.00 an officer could run license plates via touch
screen, access information on the web, and even print to the
trunk without having clutter in the cabin of the car.
We are looking forward to testing the IPAD
in a law enforcement setting, and are also giving one away
on www.facebook.com as a thank you to our loyal readers.

Located in our
Police Bags and Cases category is Boyt Harness Company
which provides a number of great tactical bags. We
have been testing this particular bag for a few weeks and
really put the bag through the ringer. Not only did
the bag emerge without a scratch, but it has become even
more comfortable after the breaking in. We have taken
the bag for a long hike, aggressive dirt bike rides, back
and forth on patrol, and even for a brief but unexpected
spill on some rocky terrain.
The bag lists for $88.00 at the time of
publishing, and is well worth the investment. The pull
tabs are large and durable making quick zips easy with
gloves on, and the layout of the compartments are simple and
well designed. So many bags try to overdesign the
layout, and the bag actually become heavy and counter
productive. We were able to fit a Level III ballistic
vest, gloves, ammo, Gore-Tex jacket, water, glasses, helmet,
and other gear with ease into the bag.
The bag is offered in Digital Camo, Black,
Green, and Tan so whatever the mission Boyt has a great bag
for you. For more information visit

Many officers become permanently affixed to
a brand of boots, and find a solid boot within their price
point for the long haul. Matterhorn is one of those
brands, and they have carried this particular boot style for
some time. The difficult part is to find a good deal
on the boots because these Matterhorn's typically hover
north of the $200.00 mark.
One of our testers has been wearing these
particular boots for about a month, and is quickly becoming
a fan of Matterhorn's. Every police department is
different for clothing allowances (the better departments
supply officers with a boot allowance every year) but the
same battle is to find the best boot for the buck, that fits
and can withstand the long hours of work most will see.
One
reseller who consistently seems to come in below the
threshold of the market is Barre Army Navy. There are
several versions of this Matterhorn boot, but the one that
seems to draw the greatest following is the 8" all leather,
Gore-Tex bootie, DRYZ Intellitemp, and Vibram sole.
Barre Army Navy has them now for
$176.95
here or go to the main
website and type
matterhorn in the search (upper right). When we went
directly to the Matterhorn website and clicked on the
Purchase on-line we were directed to Shoeline.com and the
cost was a whopping $252.92. If you are looking for a
solid boot at a fraction of the cost, try to grab a pair of
these boots before they disappear.
