NEW ORGANIC BALLISTIC MATERIAL DISCOVERED

DiscoveryNews which is known for reporting innovative developments has released breaking news about a new material that is speculated to be the hardest organic material on the earth.

That is huge news, and is certain to make the law enforcement community smile.  Imagine if it were possible to make your entire uniform ballistic?  It looks to be more than a possibility because scientists from the University of Utah have discovered an organic material that is twice the strength of Kevlar (current material being used in ballistic vests), and can be printed on a super lightweight material.

A finding of this magnitude can drastically lower the number of law enforcement related deaths every year.  Many current vests have vulnerability spots even when worn correctly because officers lift their arms when firing back at an adversary and it creates a void that is not protected from bullets.

If the ballistic material could be applied to a cotton like material it would significantly increase the safety of patrol officers, detectives, and undercover agents.  It could be extended to over 90% of the officers body, and would make it very difficult for the bad guys to shoot down a police officer with a hand gun.

Another factor for officers is that they are subjected to wearing 25lbs of gear on a 16 hour shift (can wreak havoc on a body) and adding a bulky Kevlar vest to that summer shift might just be enough to prevent the officer from wearing his or her armor.  We truly believe the new material would increase safety, efficiency and allow officers to be more agile when running.

Kenneth Woycechowsky, a scientist at the University of Utah is up to speed on the research and said "I think this is an amazing discovery". He also added “the rigidity and stiffness of these spheres is unique, and surpasses any other known organic molecule, even Kevlar.”

We applaud the efforts and cant wait to test the new material.  Look for it to hit the market in late 2011!
