MAKO
T-PODSL Vertical Foregrip & Bipod with Integral Tactical
Light
Located in our
Firearm Accessories category is a well established
company MAKO which continues to make strides for law
enforcement, and military members by creating innovative
police gear. This is the second MAKO review we
have done (see the first review
here) and we plan to subject a few more of their
accessories to abuse to determine if MAKO products can
withstand the stress typically imposed on weapons used by
law enforcement. At the end of the series we will load
up a rifle with every MAKO accessory we have tested, and
weight the rifle and display a video of us throwing some
rounds down range!
This test was of the MAKO
T-PODSL which is a Vertical Foregrip & Bipod with Integral
Tactical Light. When closed the foregrip looks similar
to many others on the market, but this particular foregrip
integrates a light and splits open at the touch of a button
to convert to a bipod.
A few members of our team were skeptical of
the need of a bipod for law enforcement purposes, so we
jumped right into the usage of that particular feature.
It was unanimous that every shooter was more accurate with
the bipod beyond 25 yards. Many officers fired their
first set of shots by placing the magazine on the ground as
a base, or just supported the rifle with their elbow from
the prone position.
It was very surprising to see just how much
more accurate we were with the bipod extended. Another
factor we identified after about an hour on the range is
fatigue. If an officer is stationed on a perimeter of
a barricaded suspect, an incident can last for hours.
With the bipod extended the shooter can leave his rifle on
target and get back on target in a hurry if they need to set
the rifle down to hydrate or perform a secondary action.
Another attribute we all kicked
around while testing the foregrip was the weight factor.
Having been prior military before law enforcement we all had
the same philosophy that any gear better be
worth its weight in gold. If you are loaded down with
so much junk that an adversary can shoot you because you are
moving like a sloth, then leave the junk at home and take
only essentials.
This foregrip has an integrated 100 lumen LED light that has
a momentary button on the back of the foregrip that is very
easy to activate. Closing the bipod after use was
simple and we quickly knew why this grip was sought after by
special operation groups in the military and swat team
officers.
MAKO continues to stifle the competition with innovative
police gear, and we look forward to implementing this
foregrip into daily operations.
Below is a video of the installation of the foregrip and
illustrates the technology behind its functionality.
