POLICE GEAR REVIEW 01.08.2011

GARMIN - 265WT

With new technology surfacing every other month it can be difficult to ascertain the best timing to purchase a GPS device.  This the GARMIN 265WT and is probably one of the best deals of the season.

Prices for this particular unit are hovering around $100.00 and if you click the shopping tab on www.Google.com and type Garmin 265WT in the search field you will find around 150 stores that are selling the unit at that price range.

We have been testing this particular unit in a police vehicle and found it serves as a vital tool.  So vital that we actually saw an increase in response times when using the unit.  The "WT" stands for with traffic and the wire has a built in box that gives live traffic updates.  From our understanding GARMIN uses other drivers with GPS units to determine where the traffic has slowed or stopped.  In the event a traffic jam is ahead the little green car in the upper left corner turns red.  If you push the red traffic indicator it will illustrate the delay and give you an option to push detour.  This is a great feature if you grind your life away on the highway, or even a road that can quickly ruin your day because of traffic.

The unit is also helpful even if you do not have a route programmed.  In the event you are responding to a call in a hurry and are desperately searching with your eyes for the street sign or approaching intersection, this unit displays approaching street information nicely and can get you into the desired location even if the local vandals ripped down the sign.
