POLICE GEAR REVIEW 12.16.2010

RUGER - LCP CHAMBERED IN .380 CALIBER

If you do not carry a concealed weapon because it is too heavy or difficult to hide, we have the answer for you.  This is the RUGER - LCP chambered in .380 and is one of the top concealable or small framed firearms on the market.  The firearm has the capability to carry 6 rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber.  Each trigger pull is double action, and the gun has fixed sights.  For regular cleaning the gun breaks down into three easy pieces, so you will not spend more time breaking the firearm down than you will at the range shooting.

Officers seem to go through phases in their career, but one thing that has become very clear to our team at PoliceListing is you should carry as often as possible.  Col. Grossman (West Point Psychologist ) said it best in one of his prolific speeches when he explained the following:

"In the rare event a shooting occurs and as an officer you have the knowledge, and ability to stop the threat, but do not have your tools of the trade, you will regret it for the rest of your life."

So with that we try to illustrate as many options of handguns to carry, and encourage officers to find an option that best fits your unique frame and abilities.  The RUGER does that on many levels and is so small it can tucked away even for a run on your local trails.

It is similar in size to an IPhone if that gives you any point of reference as to how easy it would be to tuck this gun in a front pocket.  At a recent training we spoke to number of patrol officers, detectives, and even administrators who carry this gun on a daily basis.  Not one of shooters experienced a problem and we would not expect anything less from a firearm manufacturer with a stellar reputation for quality.  Our experience behind the trigger was similar and we fired a number of rounds very accurately.  The gun has very little kick and easy to get back on target between shots.

Although we did not have the chance to carry the gun for an extended period of time we hope to report back with more details.  For more information contact RUGER at http://www.ruger.com/products/lcp/index.html
