• Criminal Investigation - 10th ed. (Charles R. Swanson)

• Community Policing - A Contemporary Perspective 5th ed. - (Larry K. Gaines, Robert Trojanowicz, Victor E. Kappeler)

• Know the field manual or Penal code book inside and out - typically there are questions in the back of the book that are taken for the test.

• Department policy and procedure books

• Know your department union contracts
